An inspection should solve this

Question:

My son and I recently acquired a fine 1969 Chevy Nova. It needs some work, as you may assume. Neither door windows operate properly. Actually, one doesn’t operate at all.

Can you suggest a source of information to enable us to have functioning windows? We have the factory manual but it is not much help to novices like us.

Answer:

A factory assembly manual will show you how the window assemblies are put together but it really won’t do all that much to help you troubleshoot the malfunction. This is one of those cases where you can “over-think” the problem and its solution. The mechanisms are actually very simple in design and execution and examining them should readily reveal the trouble spots. Common problems include stripped gears, dislodged glass and a cracked window track.
