Mike Yager’s Corvette Bible

April 1, 2008 | By Ted Kade

It had been some time since I’d been useful and entertaining information specifications, and a behind the wheel of a Corvette, and then a couple of years ago I received an invitation from GM to take a spin in some of their vehicles.

For the Corvette portion of the day, they’d set up a course on some runways and service roads at a former Marine air base complete with lots of bright orange cones so you could slalom and make tight turns and only put the cones in jeopardy if you were to lose it during one of the maneuvers.

I’m not one to drive fast, at least not much anymore, but given this opportunity in a relatively safe and ticket-free environment I must admit that I was inclined to apply a bit of extra pressure on the accelerator pedal. But despite my rather limited abilities as a performance driver, the Corvette seemed to say, “Hey, I can pull this one off without even breaking a sweat,” and I am pleased to report that not one cone was injured by me during the day’s activities.

In addition to being fun, that drive also was enough to fully refresh my memory as to why the Corvette is a perennial favorite with automotive enthusiasts—it looks good and it performs very well. So, what’s not to like?

The same thing canbe said of Mike Yager’s Corvette Bible... it looks good with its numerous sharp and colorful photos of exteriors, interiors, engines and details, and it performs in that it provides

about every model year from the Corvette’s introduction in 1953 through the 2007 cars.

This, of course, is no surprise as Yager, a former tool-and-die maker, has been selling Corvette parts and accessories since 1974 and today owns Mid America Motorworks, a major aftermarket supplier for Corvettes and air-cooled Volkswagens.

“My goal is to help educate buyers regarding the values, uses and rewards of Corvette ownership,” said Yager, who, as you might expect, owns several himself.

To assist potential buyers, there’s a narrative about what was new and different each model year along with his “cheers” and “jeers” for each year, model

“game plan” to help you

will look perfect in your garage.

And since you won’t want to just leave your Vette sitting still, you might consider driving it out to Effingham, Illinois, for Yager’s 15th Annual Corvette Fun-fest to be held Sept. 19-21 at his company headquarters. Billed as a “customer appreciation party,” the Fun-fest draws some 15,000 Corvettes and 45,000 Corvette enthusiasts.
