Advice on a 727 automatic transmission

March 1, 2011 | By Richard Prince

Question:

I am in the process of putting a 1962 Dodge Town Wagon back together. I have the 727 automatic transmission that has the park brake on the back of the transmission. I’m trying to find a picture of the park brake apart so I can put it back together again. Also, I’m trying to find parts and specs for the drive shaft. Any ideas?

Answer:

The factory transmission service and rebuild manual will be quite helpful for you. A book called Torqueflite A-727 Transmission Handbook, by Carl H.

Munroe, also has a wealth of information about your 727 transmission, including a diagram showing the rear park brake assembly. The factory chassis service manual will help you with the drive shaft.

For drive shaft parts, give Valley Vintage Auto Parts (vvap.com) a shout. They have a very large inventory of vintage Chrysler parts going all the way back to around 1935.
