Searching for a dual master

April 1, 2009 | By Richard Prince

Question:

I have a 1957 Ford 500 with a 312 cid engine and manual drum brakes. The car has a single reservoir master cylinder and I would like to put on a double master cylinder with a proportioning valve to keep my drum brakes. I can’t find any information on this.

Answer:

I’m not sure what specific information you are looking for so I’ll offer you some general information. You should not need a proportioning valve for your four wheel drum brake system. Just make sure that the dual reservoir master cylinder you install is designed for use with drum brakes in the front and rear. Various companies sell the master cylinder you need, including Master Power Brakes in Mooresville, North Carolina, (www.mpbrakes.com).
