Where to buy new insulation for in between the gas tank and car body?

Question:

I bought a new gas tank for my 1969 GTO from Quanta Restoration Products. When I removed the original tank the thick, tar-impregnated mat (the assembly manual calls it an “insulator”) sandwiched between the tank and bottom of the car crumbled and fell apart. Do you have any idea where I can buy a new insulator?

Answer:

l am not aware of a source for this item. When I needed to replace the insulator in the past, I “approximated” it by cutting carpet jute pad to match the old insulator and then thoroughly coating it on both sides with sprayon undercoating (obtained from the Eastwood Co. I never had a problem with this method and can recommend it to you if you can’t locate an exact reproduction of the original part.
