Question:

l am considering the purchase of a Jaguar XJ6 that had a 350 Chevrolet engine conversion. I am concerned that such a car will prove to be a foolish investment down the road. What would you do?

Answer:

Complete kits to convert Jaguars to small block Chevy power have been available for many years and a good number of cars have been converted. After conversion, these cars are usually far more reliable and are always much less expensive to maintain. The downside is that purists frown upon the idea and, in theory at least, the value of a converted car may lag behind the value of an original car in the future. In reality, however, older XJ6s are inexpensive to buy regardless of the originality of their engines and I don’t think they are going to appreciate in value to any significant degree in the near or even distant future. Therefore, I would not even let the investment potential of a converted versus original engine car enter into my equation. If you will enjoy the converted Jaguar and want it, then you should buy it.
