Trouble finding a convertible boot

May 1, 2009 | By Richard Prince

Question:

I need a new convertible boot for my 1968 Dodge Polara convertible, a “C” body car, and I am having a heck of a time coming up with one!

I tried one company and they sent me a boot that wouldn’t fit and after talking me into sending them the old, original boot they refused to remake a boot to fit and just sent the old one back to me.

I have contacted local upholstery shops and told them that I have the old boot that could be used for a pattern and even have a roll of black automotive vinyl that could be used to make a new one, and I still have not been able to find anyone to make a new boot for this car.

Do you know of any place where I might be able to order a new boot to fit this car or someone that could make one for me before convertible season sets in for good later this year? I cannot understand why no one seems to be willing to make something as simple as a new convertible boot that will fit!

Answer:

I’m surprised that nobody you’ve contacted has been willing to replicate your old boot.

I suggest that you give Billy a call at White Post Restorations (whitepost.com). Even though both you and White Post are in Virginia I think they are still more than 300 miles away, but it still is probably worth a trip there with your car to make sure that the new boot they make for you fits perfectly.
