My truck’s hydraulic pump leaks

February 1, 2012 | By Richard Prince

Question:

I have a 1948 Chevy Thriftmaster pickup with a lift on the box. The hydraulic pump for the lift works but it leaks badly. Do you know where I can get a seal/ring kit or rebuild kit? It is a Husco pump, model HU4 with the number 1255 stamped below the model number.

Answer:

Husco is an old company with a very modern personality that today is focused on hydraulic and electro hydraulic power controls. They don’t manufacture pumps and haven’t for a long time but that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to repair your leaking pump.

Central Hydraulics (central-hydraulics.com) is a full-service shop that repairs and rebuilds hydraulic cylinders, pumps and related components. They have three locations in Minnesota and the Rogers facility is closest to you. Call there and ask for Mark and he will be able to help you determine whether it’s feasible or even possible to repair your leaking pump, or whether you will need to replace it with a new one.
