Question:

The 331-cubic-inch V-8 in my ’51 Chrysler Imperial runs rough. Can this be caused by the dual-point distributor firing the two sets of points out of sync?

Answer:

The two sets of points in your distributor are parallel between the coil and ground and therefore ignition cannot occur until both sets of points are open simultaneously. If your engine is running rough, start with the basics such as a compression check, a tune-up and so forth.
