My dash lights fluctuate

Question:

I have a 1967 Dodge Coronet R/T with the 440 rebuilt back to stock specs. The car was restored in 1990 and I have owned it for six years. I have never driven the car after dark until last night and when I turned the lights on I noticed that my dash lights would dim and then get real bright, then dim again and get real bright. It seemed like it was about the same timing, just dim to bright and back again over and over. What do you think the problem might be?

Answer:

The problem you are experiencing can be due to a number of different causes, including a defective headlamp switch, bad ground in the light circuit, or a faulty voltage regulator. The latter is most likely the problem.
