How can I restore torsion bars?

June 1, 2008 | By Richard Prince

Question:

I own a 1969 MGC that has a torsion bar suspension in the front end. One side sags even when I set the torsion bars by the book. I have even dropped the side down further then the book says but the bar seems to be too weak to adjust up for proper height. Do you know of anyone that can rework them like they do leaf springs or isn’t that possible?

Answer:

It is not feasible to properly restore your car’s torsion bars. Play it safe and buy new ones.
