Dual exhaust for a Chevy 6

September 1, 2008 | By Richard Prince

Question:

I am restoring a 1951 Chevy with a 6cylinder engine. I would like to install dual exhaust on it and would like to split the exhaust manifold. I would like to know where I could get information, a diagram or illustration to do this.

Answer:

The first question that flashed into my mind was “why?” My lack of vision aside, I think the best solution for you is to install headers, which are available from a number of different sources including Langdon’s Stovebolt 6 Engine Parts Company in Utica, Michigan, www.stoveboltengineco.com).

If you actually go ahead and “split” an original cast iron exhaust manifold you are going to have to do a lot of fabrication and welding and it can be a trick to successfully weld a 50or 60-year-old exhaust manifold.
