Consider a different engine/trans

Question:

I own a 1940 Chevy. I want to install a 283 cid V-8, Turbo 350 transmission, and a later model rear end into this car. Do you have any suggestions?

Answer:

Unless you happen to already possess a 283 cid engine I’d suggest installing a late model 350 cid. They are more powerful and more plentiful. Also, I recommend a late-model overdrive automatic transmission rather than a Turbo 350, unless, of course, you already have one on hand.

Regardless of which small block Chevy engine and drivetrain you use, the swap you are contemplating is very commonly done and virtually all of the needed parts are readily available from companies like

Speedway Motors (speedwaymotors.com), Roy Brizio Street Rods (roybriziostreetrods.com), and Hot Rods & Custom Stuff (hotrodscustomstuff.com).
