A directional switch for a ’30s car

Question:

I’m trying to locate a replacement directional switch for my 1933 Chevy coupe. I bought the car two years ago with very little history. It has been converted to a 12-volt electrical system and the three-position directional switch operates the turn signals in concert with an audible beep and flashing indicator. The way the switch works is: turn left for “left directional,” center is off, turn right for “right directional.”

I’ve tried several classic car parts companies with no success. Any information would be appreciated.

Answer:

I have no clue what company made the turn signal switch in your car or where you can find an exact replacement. Based on its appearance I’ll venture a guess that it was manufactured some time in the 1950s and, in all likelihood, production ended several decades ago.

But you will have no trouble finding a functional replacement switch and there are many different styles and types of switches available. Check out Grote (grote.com) and SheeMar (shee-mar.com) for numerous examples.
